The .ie Domain Profile Report 2020 arrived

Last year was a precedent in the registration of .ie domains, a couple of weeks after the pandemic began and the lockdown occurred, many companies started to go online. According to .ie domain data, there was 29.8% registration increase in 2020 compared to the previous, finishing with 309,853 .ie domains at the end of 2020.

What were the company's main reasons for going online? 

• Secure a direct line to communicate with customers
• Continue selling 
• The necessity of having a web presence

Of the total .ie Domain registrations, 89.7% are from Republic of Ireland, 1.5% from Northern Ireland and 8.8% from abroad. A foreign company can have a .ie Domain, even though the company is not located in Ireland. They must prove a connection to Ireland and the owner’s registration must be traceable. 

The top three Counties for.ie Domain registration in 2020:

• The Counties with the highest registration growth in 2020  were Clare 70.5%, Derry 68.8% and Tyrone 63.3%, 
• The Counties with the most  .ie Domain registrations were Dublin, Cork and Galway. 

The domains hosted in Ireland are shown in the chart below, with .ie the main Domain. It seems that businesses owners are realizing that having a .ie Domain makes a difference in SEO ranking.
