How Conversational search effects SEO web design : top tips

Picture
Mobile phones are everywhere! There are even waterproof versions for that odd dip in the Forty Foot...but the more that they integrate into every aspect of our lives the greater the way they change to the way we search, in the past you laboriously typed in what you were looking for carefully selecting what you thought were the correct keyword to find exactly what it is you were looking for.
But no longer: we simply ask out loud with conversational search and it is found, and this of course affects how we build and deliver websites and effects a significant amount of search engine optimisation work we do.
Let's have a closer look at how voice search will change the digital landscape for Irish Businesses and impact their SEO strategies. We will also give some pointers on how to adapt your website to be more Voice Search friendly.
Let’s get some learning in with the top Seo company in Ireland
3 Ways Voice Search Will change Search Engine OptimizationIn the majority of cases when we refer to voice search we mean mobile devices such as watches and phones or phablets. However it is incorrect to assume that voice based excludes all Laptops and PC’s, bear this in mind whilst we examine the impact of Voice search.

1. Questions will be phrased differently. You may be the type of person who runs a lot of search queries per day. This will often involve sitting down at the computer and typing keywords to find what you’re looking for. For example, if you were searching for a similar article to this one, you could type ‘voice interaction SEO’. It’s concise, and very likely to return exactly what you’re looking for.

Perhaps you do a lot of querying which will involve sitting down and typing the keywords of whatever it is you are looking for eg. Social media marketing company Ireland. It is concise and succinct.

Voice search will appear quite differently, voice searching will be phrased as a full search query.
Taking an example to illustrate:
Typed Search: Social media marketing company Ireland.
Voice Search: What is the best social media marketing company in Ireland?

Test it out now and see what the results are:
Typed Search:

So why do people phrase their queries differently? No one can really explain other than the fact it just feels more natural when speaking to use a full phrase.

Of course Google search algorithm is constantly improving to take account for this.
Well the consequence is clear and obvious that for improved SEO you need your website to focus more on long tail keywords and phrases going forward.
If there is a question, put the question on the website or posting and answer it succinctly.
2. Context Will Be More Important for SearchWith the explosive growth of mobile context will be ever more important as mobile devices, unlike there desk based counterparts, take in to account location.
Mobile devices track your location constantly and of course provide the revelant information in context to that.

This information impacts the results by providing context.

Let’s imagine for a moment that you’re in Kildare looking for the best SEO company close by. Here are two ways you’ll get that information based on the type of search you’re using:
  • Typed search: ‘best seo company in Kildare’.
  • Voice-based search: ‘Are there any good seo companies close by?’
In each of these Google will use its review systems to find the best results: you don't need to tell where you are: it already knows
Picture
From the SEO point of view it makes sense to target your content for context based searches or run the risk of losing local business, it depends of course on what type of business you are in, but if you are in sales or services first priority is to start targeting local keyword searches.

3. Giving a direct answer to the query will rise above others keywords.Searches from the start have generally worked the same: input a query and the algorithm produces a list of search results, the exact content you want is there in the page results but it can be hard to find.

The latest search engines work the same but give you direct answers to your questions.

e.g., if you want to know more about the meaning of SERPS and how it works, you might use either of these queries:
  • Typed search: ‘SERPS’.
  • Voice-based search: ‘What’s a SERP?’

If you search on a computer  one result will stand out: that is what Google believes is the correct answer.

However, you can still move down the page and look at the rest of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs):
Picture
On the other hand, searching by a mobile device is more likely to give you a direct result:

This happens because in most cases, people don’t want to scroll through long lists of results on a mobile device – they just want a direct answer. Google understands this and prioritizes the best results when it’s confident they’re exactly what users are looking for.
This happens because on a mobile device people just want a quick answer, Google understands this and gives priority to exactly what the user is looking for.

What it means is that getting to the top of SERPS is going to be more important to answer queries directly and as succinctly as possible. In our next blog post or two we will be looking at ways of optimising your website for voice search with some practical tips and advice. www.cosmos.ie
